SUNDAY MORNING PRE-RACE PREP: It's GO TIME!

Time: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Location: H2O Adventure & Fitness Centre. 4075 Gordon Dr. Kelowna BC

✅ Need to Knows:

  • Equipment Check List at the bottom of this page… try not to forget anything! 😉
  • We’d recommend showing up an hour before your child’s race. Wave start times will be communicated a week prior to the event. We progress from the youngest age group to the oldest.
  • If you missed the Saturday Check-in, report to the athlete check-in tent first to sign in and get your race bib.
  • You’ll then pick up your child’s timing chip before heading to the designated transition zone to set up the bike and run gear. Each age group will have their own transition area unless one particular age group has a very low number of participants.
  • Parents may assist with transition set up and retrieval of equipment before and after each age group has finished.
  • Place bikes, helmets, and other gear in the marked racks by age group (colors match the race bibs).
  • Equipment must be stored neatly in a compact space next to the bike.
  • Rack bikes by hanging the nose of the saddle (seat) over the bike rack bar. (Smaller bikes may not touch the ground)
  • Once your transition area is ready to go, grab your swim gear and head over to the “Wave Calling Tent” 15-minutes prior to your designated start time.
  • Wave start times will be communicated a week in advance, posted at the Saturday Check-in Tent and at the Wave Calling Tent on race morning.
  • Sorry, there will be no wave grouping and/or start time requests taken.
  • The waves progress from youngest to oldest and start times will be determined once registration has closed or the race has sold out.

SWIM: Making a Splash!

✅ Need to Knows:

  • Arrive at the Wave Calling Tent before your group is called. Waves start with the 3-5 age group.
  • Wave schedule will be published once registration has closed. Please arrive a minimum of 1-hour before your scheduled wave start to set up transition and report to the Swim Marshalling Tent.
  • Parents and participants may enter the facility together and walk up to the top pool deck.
  • Participants in the 3-5 age group must be accompanied in the water by an Adult 16+ years of age. Time to get your feet wet, parents! (Pool Depth – 5 Feet)
  • Participants in the 6-7 age group and up should be comfortable in the water. Need a little extra confidence? We’ve got life jackets on hand to make sure every swimmer feels safe and secure. Remember, life jackets are for comfort, not as a substitute for swimming skills.
  • Spectators not required to swim may watch from the blue bleachers on the pool deck.
  • Resting is A-OK! Grab the lane ropes or side walls anytime you need a breather.
  • Life jackets are optional and provided at the pool deck. Flutter boards, noodles, and fins are a no-go, but puddle jumpers are allowed for the 3-5 age group.
  • Race Swim Caps are recommended but not required.
  • Goggles are also recommended but not required. No other swim assist equipment may be worn or used.
  • No running on the pool deck (even if there’s carpet!), and all races start “in-water”—no jumping or diving.
  • Athletes are responsible for counting their own laps, so make it a fun challenge!
  • If you need any assistance on race day, our awesome Swim Captain, lifeguards, and volunteers will be there every splash of the way.

TRANSITION 1: From Splash to Dash!

After the swim, participants will exit the pool and head to the Transition Area to switch between sports. Volunteers are there to guide and assist every step of the way, ensuring a smooth switch from swim to bike.

✅ Need to Knows:

  • Spectators must exit through the same door they entered through. Please don’t follow your child through the athlete exit unless you’re accompanying your 3-5-year-old.
  • Only 3-5 year old age group parents may assist their child in transition. Volunteers will assist all other athletes if needed. Parents, you get to relax and cheer them on from the sidelines! This is the one time you don’t need to stress about getting them dressed!
  • Participants can dry off if they choose in the transition area.
  • In the event of a cooler morning, participants can dry off on the pool deck.
  • There are no changing facilities between the swim and the bike.
  • Torso’s must be covered before starting the bike.
  • Helmets must be done up before unracking the bike.
  • Athletes must run or walk their bikes to the “ON MY BIKE” sign before mounting.

BIKE: Pedal/Stride, and Smile!

✅ Need to Knows:

  • Bring a well-maintained bike or trike (training wheels are welcome at any age). Glider/balance bikes are also acceptable.
  • The bike must be an appropriate size for the athlete as not to cause any safety concerns while mounting, riding or dismounting
  • Helmets are a MUST, and they must fit snugly and securely.
  • Know your laps in advance. They’ll be printed on the race bib, and parents can tear off a reminder strip to keep handy.
  • Call out encouragement: “One more lap!” Your cheers make all the difference!
  • Participants must ride on the right side of the road and pass riders on the left.
  • Riders must ride safely and be aware of their surrounding at all times.
  • No headphone or devices that may cause distraction are permitted.

Transition 2: Rack and Run!

✅ Need to Knows:

  • Participants must dismount (get off their bike) before the dismount line at the end of the bike course.
  • Helmets must stay done up until the bike is racked at the participants’ transition spot. (Volunteers will be there to assist)
  • Put on any additional run gear and head to the transition exit to start the run.

RUN: The Final Stretch!

✅ Need to Knows:

  • Same as the bike – Know your laps in advance. They’ll be printed on the race bib, and parents can tear off a reminder strip to keep handy.
  • Call out encouragement: “One more lap!” Your cheers make all the difference!
  • Participants must run on the right side of the path and pass on the left.
  • Other than the 3-5 age group, no parents or spectators may run alongside athletes on the course.
  • No headphones or devices that may cause distraction are permitted.
  • Don’t forget, BIG SMILES at the FINISH!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

🚨 No Helmet, No Race: Helmets are non-negotiable and must be buckled anytime your child is in contact with their bike.
👕 No Shirt, No Race: Shirts or tops must be worn during the bike and run portions.
🚴 No Riding in Transition: Athletes must walk/run their bikes until they pass the “ON MY BIKE” sign.

This is a non-competitive event—it’s all about fun, fitness, and personal accomplishment. Results are posted alphabetically, not by finish order, so let’s celebrate every effort!
